My creative process involves taking thoughts and breathing life into them. The process is similar to Polaroid film exposure; you have an idea of your goal or product, but the process causes change, causing the end result to exceed my initial expectations.

I enjoy traveling, as the unmarred beauty of preserved natural landscape is an extraordinary inspiration.

My love for jazz stems from my own personal roots. My grandfather, Alfred Guichard Sr. was a famous New Orleans Jazz Musician in the early 1930’s. Knowing my family roots was a catalyst for the creation of an ongoing jazz series that expresses the relation between jazz music and the painted abstract, as well as the relationship between musician and instrument.

My love for sculpture has been inspirational in my canvas-sculpting technique.
An appreciation for dance has inspired me to express grace and strength of dancers through painting. I posses a special affinity for African American dancers because of their natural beauty and poise.

Collaboration through task-specialization and artist networking is both a focus in my life as an artist and in my work process. I find that as artists, we share a common interest in life-thread issues.

Philadelphia, Pa – May 6, 2005 – ArtJaz Gallery is pleased to announce the return of Chicago artist, Andre Guichard to Philadelphia in his first solo exhibition at ArtJaz Gallery.  The exhibition entitled “Jazzy Bouquet” will exhibit new paintings beginning June 3 through July 9, 2005. ArtJaz Gallery will host a special collector’s preview reception on Thursday, June 2, 6-8pm. The opening reception will be held on First Friday, June 3rd 5-8:30pm.

An artist talk with Andre Guichard will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2-4pm.

Guichard’s paintings express two of his greatest passions: his love of jazz and the beauty and wonder of nature. These two passions continue to be his muse for creating an explosion of vibrant paintings that have incorporated elements of nature and images of jazz musicians. Guichard’s passion for jazz originates from his grandfather, Alfred Guichard Sr. who was a famous New Orleans Jazz musician in the early 1930’s. With this knowledge of his history, Guichard continues to be inspired to explore the relationship between musicians and their instruments.

“Jazzy Bouquet” abounds with images full of robust energy capturing the viewers’ attention with a varying display of abstract florals, abstracted landscapes and jazz musicians. The painting, “Trumpet on Fire” comes to life with the image of a musician playing intensely resulting in the powerful unexpected yellow cascading bouquet exuding from his horn. Many of Guichard’s jazz works are infused with more traditional jazz images while incorporating his inspirational abstract elements of nature through various mediums.

For Guichard, his creative process begins with a thought, “I breathe life into my thoughts, with results that exceed my initial expectations”. Self-taught, Guichard has been painting professionally for sixteen years. His works have exhibited throughout the United States and can be found in Corporate and private collections. Most recently, Guichard was published in African Art: The Diaspora and Beyond The Daniel Texidor Parker Collection by Daniel Texidor Parker, 2004.
