ARTIST BIO India Cruse-Griffin began painting life around her at an early age. Even as a child her works were alive and brilliant with color. As time and life experiences changed her, she began to analyze her work. Remembering the love she had for her warm childhood surroundings and memories are highly visible in her unique mixed media collage images. “My work is based on my family, friends and life as a child in Richmond, Indiana” states Cruse-Griffin. Cruse-Griffin’s mixed media art includes bold colors, shapes and patterns that tell stories of love, pride, visual culture and spirit of community. Within her work there is the illusion of distance and space created in part by the use of paper and paint that link to complex and extremely detailed images. “Life’s not perfect, although memories can be, so I paint and reveal the everyday quilt-like textures of my soul”, says Cruse-Griffin. India Cruse-Griffin earned her B.S. in Art Education at Ball State University in Indiana. In addition she is an arts educator with teaching experience at both the secondary and university level. She is a member of the board of directors of the Richmond Arts Museum in Indiana. Selected Exhibitions Professional Affiliations Publications |
